In September 2022, one of our higher-level TY Irish classes began working on an exciting new language project, a school magazine as Gaeilge, which was created to help our students to improve their language skills and increase the use of the Irish language on campus. The magazine was formally launched in time for Christmas 2022. Three issues were published in our first year; a Christmas special, a Seachtain na Gaeilge issue and a TY Finale edition, which showcased the experiences and achievements of the TY Class of 2023.
Now in it is third year and newly-established as one of four TY Gaeilge modules, all TY students now have the opportunity to come up with their own interpretation of the magazine. A weekly session in our computer room provides an opportunity to research and edit articles before submitting them online, at which point all drafts are proofed and added to a mock-up. When approved for publication, the magazine is printed in full colour for use as an authentic text in class and is also uploaded here to the school website and social media for everyone to enjoy.
